James R. Jett, MD James Jett

James R. Jett, MD, is Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.  Dr. Jett received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and his medical degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in thoracic diseases at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He was also awarded a research fellowship from the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and a Nakasone Fellowship from the National Cancer Institute of Japan in Tokyo.

Dr. Jett is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, among other professional societies. He is also a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Devices, Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee Center for Devices and Radiological Health, and a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Committee on Lung Cancer Progress. In addition, he serves on the Editorial Board for Respiratory Medicine, Chest, and American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Jett is also an ad hoc reviewer for numerous journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Cancer.  He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology.  He is involved in clinical trials for early detection of lung, chemoprevention and treatment trials for patients with advanced stage lung cancer. 

Paul Bunn, MD Paul Bunn

Paul A. Bunn, Jr., MD, is currently Director of the University of Colorado Cancer Center in Denver, where he holds the Grohne/Stapp endowed Chair of Cancer Research and is Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Bunn received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical Center in New York City. He completed his internship and residency in medicine at University of California, H.C. Moffitt Hospital, in San Francisco and his fellowship in medical oncology at the Medicine Branch of the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Bunn is Past President and member of the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Cancer Institutes and on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Cancer League of Colorado. Dr. Bunn previously served as chairman of the Oncology Drug Advisory Committee of the FDA and served a term on the ASCO Board of Directors. Active in the Southwest Oncology Group, Dr. Bunn serves on the Lung Cancer Committee.
His research interests include chemotherapy in non-small cell and small cell lung cancer. Recent publications include articles discussing chemotherapeutic options in lung cancer treatment in Cancer, and anti-growth factor therapy for lung cancer in Drug Resistance Updates. Recent chapters discussing new approaches to chemotherapy for lung cancer appear in Biology of Lung Cancer (Marcel Dekker) and Progress in Anti-Cancer Chemotherapy (Springer-Verlag).

Andrew TurrisiAndrew Turrisi
Andrew Turrisi’s research and clinical focus is the development of new strategies for the uses of chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of pancreatic, lung and esophageal cancers, and the treatment of cancer symptoms and therapy side effects. Turrisi is a Professor and Chair of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Centre in Detroit, Michigan, and an Adjunct Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Turrisi has received numerous awards including multiple listings in Best Doctors in America and the 2001 Distinguished Service Award from the American Board of Radiology. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is on the Editorial Board of a number of journals, including The International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology and Physics. Turrisi has authored or co-authored more than 95 articles about cancer research in peer-reviewed journals, edited 3 books and written 26 book chapters. Turrisi received his B.S. (1970) from Saint Peter’s College and his M.D. (1974) from Georgetown University. He completed his Internship (1975) and Residency in Internal Medicine (1977) from Georgetown University Hospital, and performed postdoctoral work at the National Cancer Institute from 1978 to 1980.

National Keynote Speakers

Professor Emeritus Lloyd Sansom AO,PhC,BSc.PhD(Adel),FPS, Hon.DHlth(N’cle),Hon DSc(Qld),DUniv(Griff),FPS
Lloyd Sansom

Professor Sansom graduated in pharmacy in 1962 and completed his PhD in Biophysical Chemistry at the University of Adelaide in 1972.He retired in 2000 as the Head of the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at the University of South Australia. He was appointed the Chair of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee in January 2001 having been the Chair of the Australian Pharmaceutical Advisory Council since 1991. Professor Sansom has been involved in the development of Australia’s National Medicines Policy. He holds the title of Emeritus Professor at the University of South Australia and has received honorary Doctorates from the University of Queensland, University of Newcastle and Griffith University. His research interests are in the areas of pharmacokinetics, biopharmaceutics and the Quality Use of Medicines. In 2002 Professor Sansom was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for contributions to the development of national pharmaceutical policy.
